Punkerella Thumbnail Sketch

After this I created a final quick thumbnail sketch for Punkerella and I was happy with this.  I felt she now felt like an feared villian with personality and not just a basic robot.  I was happy to start designing my concept art for Punkerella now.

Silhouettes Revisited

Now that I am using a new silhouette for my character I will be going back and looking at my silhouettes and pick a new silhouette that I think will suit my character.   I have picked silhouette number 1 as I love the idea of my character being an empowered woman yet still a really dangerous one.  I drew a thumbnail sketch using this silhouette as you can see, however I'm not really getting a villainous boss feel from really because the most imposing thing about her is her laser eye.  I then used my forth silhouette and drew out four thumbnail sketches, I really like what I was comming up with here as my character now had that punk rock vibe I wanted but also had a cybernetic arm and her laser eye was being covered by her hair.  For me the balance between her human elements and cybernetic elements were perfect.

New Thumbnail sketches

Here you can see three quick thumbnail sketches that I drew, none of these characters really appeal to me as they don't really have the personality that I envisioned for my last character Punkerella.  That is why I am going to go back and look at some of my silhouettes I made for the Punkerella character and will find an appropriate silhouette and start redesigning Punkerella.

Punkerella Version 1

This is my first concept for Punkerella, when I was drawing this I think that I may have leaned to much on the cybernetic elements of her as she looks like a evil robot and not an evil punk rock chick and she doesn't really display any great personality from this concept.  I will now go and draw out some new thumbnails.

Thumbnail Sketch

Now that I have drawn out my silhouettes I have decided that I will draw a thumbnail sketch for my character! I have decided to go with my sixth silhouette as I think a punk rock robot would be really cool.  Here you can see my thumbnail sketch, I decided to make half of her face human and then the rest robotic again wanting to bring out both the human and cybernetic elements about her.

Silhouette No. 1

Now that I have gotten some great inspiration on Pintrest I am going to start drawing some simple silhouettes for my character.  Here you can see my first silhouette, I have designed her to be wearing an edgy blazer/jacket with a dress and some high top leather boots.  It like this silhouette, I feel it gives my character a sense of authority while also still being an edgy villainess boss.

Silhouette No. 6

For this silhouette I really played up the cybernetic elements of my character to the point where she almost looks like a cyborg!  I give her large wires acting as hair to make it look realistic yet robotic at the same time.  I also made her body look a mix of human and robot to bring out both the human and cybernetic aspects of her.

Silhouette No. 5

For this this silhouette I started to experiment more with the cybernetic elements of my character, as you can see I gave her a flamethrower hand and a spiky ball hand.  I also have blades coming out of her arms to once again make her look more edgy.

Silhouette No. 4

For this silhouette I have given my character a half shaven head again to bring out her edgy punk rock personally, I have also given her an cybernetic hand and some combat gear to bring out the fighter side of my character.

Silhouette No. 3

For this silhouette I have designed the character to have short hair instead of long hair this time, I also gave her a leather jacket with spiked shoulder pads and a pair of checkered shorts to bring out her punk rock side.

Silhouette No. 2

In my second design I have given my character hair inspired from Cruella DeVille in 101 Dalmatians.   I like the idea of her hair having more than just one colour in it to bring out my characters edginess .  I have also given her a cybernetic claw to bring out the fantasy element of the character.

Moodboard

I created a mood board on Pintrest to get some inspiration to design my character.  So far on my mood board I have been looking at some infamous villains and some punk rock clothing from the 70's as it suits my characters personally perfectly.  I will also be adding things to my mood board that could help my with the development of my character like hair styles, maybe weapons, more clothing and possiable even fads and trends from the 70's that could tie in with my character.

Here is a link for my mood board: https://www.pinterest.com/blainemcswiggan/character-ideas-unit-2/

Character Spider Diagram

Here you can see that I have drawn out a spider diagram for Punkerella which will provide insight on her chacteristics, personality traits and features.  I envision her being from the 70's and being and evil punk rocker, she has access to advanced technology so she could use cybernetics possibly in her arms or legs, she could also have a laser eye.  I will look into all of these things for my character!

Character Backstory

From this I came up with the character Punkerella.  Punkerella is a punk rocker from the 70's who have a taste for mayhem and the more sinister things in life.  Her edgy clothes represent her personality and her ever changing outrageous hair represent just how fast her mood can change.

Mind Mapping

To begin with I started a mind mapping process I which I would list some distinguishing features and back story like the time period that my character will be from, I chose to have my character come from the 70's.  I then listed out some possible defining features for my character and picked three words from this list to help me make up my character, the words were decades (70's), Fantasy and Retro.

Introduction to Unit 2

Today I am starting a new unit, for this unit I have been giving the task of creating my own character, to do this I will first mind map out a character and then start designing my character around the ideas I come up with when mind mapping.  I have been giving the choice of creating a 3D model for a character in Maya or drawing a 2D model, I have decided to draw a 2D model of my character for the simple reason that I personally think that my drawing skills and much greater than my skills using Maya.  I will then be asking my peers to review my work and determine if there's anything I could do differently for my character.
